Zion is a member congregation of the WELS (Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod). The WELS is a group of nearly 400,000 men, women and children in about 1,300 congregations across the United States and Canada united by a common faith in and confession of Christ's saving love. The WELS conducts outreach in 40 foreign countries throughout the world. It operates a system of Christian education with 294 Lutheran elementary schools and 387 early childhood ministries. It also has 26 area Lutheran high schools affiliated with it. The WELS operates two preparatory high schools, one college of ministry and one seminary for the purpose of training pastors and teachers. The WELS is a member of the Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Conference (CELC) which is an organization of 32 confessional Lutheran church bodies throughout the world.
